Pedagogical Sketches

The power of creativity will allow you to be anything.

Dave Martinez

I am a Latin American. While living outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan, I decided to travel to Mexico to discover what this foreign frontier looked like. It was my first trip and I looked to reconnect with my roots. I did a series of works before leaving to imagine what I would find.

During this time I was influenced by Tina Modotti and Edward Weston who traveled to Mexico during the Revolution. They became heavily involved in the culture, people and landscape. We are left with the great works each captured forever by their cameras.

Though they have left us long ago, I felt life and liberation during this period as a photographer. At one point during my return I inadvertently stopped at the very same ARMCO Steel plant in Ohio that Weston had photographed.
